Are You There

It’s hard for me to know when a painting is finished.  I get to a point where I really like what I see, but it is less than I planned to do, so I keep painting and at some point, I feel like I have ruined the piece.  So I keep going until I can’t find anything to add or alter.

This painting (I call it “Are You There”) started with a charcoal sketch.  I impulsively picked up a scrap from my “collage” stash and pasted it on the left side.  After a couple of acrylic glazes and palette knife strokes, I liked what I saw, quickly declared it “finished” and removed it from the easel.
